Neuromodulation therapies, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) or transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS), are used in extreme cases of neuropsychiatric illness when conventional therapies fail to have an effect. While the mechanistic details of neuromodulation remain dark, these therapies can be extremely effective – almost miraculous – in certain cases. However, in other seemingly parallel and similar cases, neuromodulation therapies are ineffective. Academic medical centers are conducting research into determining which factors lead to better neuromodulation techniques or which pre-existing factors would decrease the potential effectiveness of neuromodulation. However, a recurring problem with these studies is that they are consistently statistically underpowered. In order to address this problem, we have created a data flow process that will allow researchers to pool information into a single database or registry. This neuromodulation patient registry will allow researchers to input their respective data into a secure database allowing researchers access to more complete and larger datasets.
This tool has many potential applications, likely more than we imagine. However, we're always developing this site with use cases in mind. Some example of use cases we consider are increasing statistical power for your studies, generating new hypotheses, and validating common assumptions. We hope that the use of this website and the tools we provide will allow the field of Neuromodulation Therapy to expand at an increasing rate and improve patient outcomes.
